The Food on Your Table
For the past semester, I have worked to learn more about the food that people eat. Why we eat what we do, how it benefits us, how a lack of food affects people, and the different environmental impacts of our eating choices. There is so much going on that involves what people eat. People don't necessarily take into account how their simple choices of what to have for dinner can affect the environment.
Food is needed for life sustenance. It provides nearly everything our body needs for survival from vitamins to energy. A lack of proper nutrition can lead to many serious illnesses, even death in severe circumstances. However, food doesn't just affect our bodies, it affects the impact people have on the world. Big food production companies cause pollution to be increased in larger quantities into the air and water. Overusing the ground to grow plants could cause soil erosion. Overfishing could lead to an eventual depletion in the supply. There are many factors to what people choose to eat, and even more problems that people should be aware of. In the coming sections, you will learn about food movements that are better for the environment, what it means to eat organically, how to promote the welfare of animals, the general effect we as people have on the environment when it comes to what we eat, and so much more.
